About Us
PNW Photography Duo
Bellingham, WA
NeverStill Studio started the way most good stories do: with love, curiosity, weirdness, and a camera.
What began as one person photographing friends, friends performing, and community in Whatcom County grew into two people building a life around capturing connection.
We’re a married photography duo based in Bellingham, capturing connection across the Pacific Northwest. Two photographers, one marriage, a shared caffeine supply. We’re partners in life and in art, and we believe the best stories—the ones that stay with you—are always moving. That is why we chose the tagline “photography that moves with your story.”
Because life, and love, are never still.
Meet BZ & Lewis
Hi, we’re Britt “BZ” Hanowell and Annalee “Lewis” DeBoer, high school sweethearts and creative partners who’ve built a life steeped in curiosity, communication, and care.
BZ was born in Bellingham and raised in Lynden. Lewis grew up here too, tucked into the same mossy corners of the Pacific Northwest that shaped who we are. We’re oddballs in the best way—equal parts caffeine, curiosity, and cat whiskers.
We love our coffee strong, our weather dramatic (Washington seems to love that too), and our forests old. We find comfort in rocky, moody beaches and beauty in the small, imperfect, weird things the PNW does so well.
We share our home with one very dignified old cat and three rescue kittens who treat gravity like a game.
We’re readers, writers, artists, and amateur aerialists. We love the circus and the arts.
We’re registered nurses.
We’re professional dabblers, love music, and love to dance.
We’ve learned to communicate entire conversations with each other through subtle or emphatic waggles of eyebrows.
Lewis loves fiber arts, black clothing, learning for the sake of learning, precision, mushroom photography, Pink Floyd, and action movies, cheesy or not. She brings a quiet steadiness and exacting eye to everything she touches, whether that’s patient care, weaving, a complicated set, a precise light setup, or catching the perfect candid frame.
BZ is always on the go and has been taking pictures her whole life. Photography runs deep in her family, passed down through generations of women who believed in documenting family stories—recording our histories. For her, the camera has always been a way of listening and a doorway into community. Photography is a lifelong special interest, but BZ does other things too. She’s a hyperactive mixed-media artist who loves spicy books, long road trips, and anything that looks like an adventure
Together, we’re a team in every sense. We see details and we see the world differently from each other. We know when to move together, when to make each other laugh, and when to stay still long enough for the perfect photo.
What We Do
Together, we blend documentary honesty with gentle direction, enough to help you feel comfortable but never fake. It’s very, here when we are needed, and blending into the scenery when we are not just without the camouflage hats.
We photograph portraits, live events, and brand stories, but mostly, we photograph the movement of life.
Most people start out saying:
“I don’t usually like photos of myself,”
or, “I don’t know if you do this kind of thing…”
They leave laughing or content, surprised by how natural it felt, how easy it was to just be after the first few awkward minutes.
You can see it in our reviews, and in the way people can’t wait to share their photos or update their profiles afterward.
That joy—people seeing themselves with softness and pride—is the best part of what we do.
If your idea doesn’t fit neatly into a category, that’s even better.
Some of our favorite sessions start with uncertainty and end in magic.
As a mobile studio, we travel wherever our clients are: throughout Whatcom County, Seattle, Oregon, and beyond.
This past summer, we worked in Springfield, Oregon and Orlando, Florida.
Have camera, will travel.
We’ll meet you where your story lives.
How We See
We intersect with love in all its forms.
The love we have for each other.
The love people pour into their projects, performances, and relationships.
The love of being alive and making something out of it while we’re here.
That’s what we photograph: motion, connection, and the small, unguarded moments where love shows up.
We stand for inclusivity, accessibility, and the celebration of self-love, both individual and communal.
Everyone deserves to feel seen with care, and that belief sits at the center of everything we do.
The Heart of It
At the end of the day, we’re two queer aunties from Bellingham who love people, stories, and the weird. Yes, the weird.
We started NeverStill Studio because we wanted to hold onto what matters, to make art out of movement and celebration, and memory out of everyday magic.
So that’s what we do: we tell the stories of the world we live in, the people we meet, and the communities we build.
Because life, and love, are never still.
